Mahua Moitra was born on 12 October 1974 in Labak in Cachar district of Assam. She belongs to a Bengali Hindu Brahmin family. Her father’s name is Dwipendra Lal Moitra and her mother’s name is Manju Moitra. Apart from this, she also has a sister.
Mahua Moitra started her schooling from “Gokhale Memorial Girls School” in Kolkata. She has done her bachelor’s degree in Economics and Mathematics. Mahua received her bachelor’s degree from Mount Holyoke College South Hadley in Massachusetts, USA in 1998.
Later she worked as an investment banker for “JP Morgan Chase” in New York City and London. Mahua Moitra left her investment banker job in 2009 to enter Indian politics.

Mahua Moitra History in Politics
Mahua Moitra started her political career in 2008 by joining the youth wing of the Indian National Congress (INC), “Indian Youth Congress”. However, Mahua said goodbye to the Indian National Congress after about two years.
After leaving the Indian National Congress party, Mahua Moitra joined the All India Trinamool Congress party (TMC) in 2010. She has also been the spokesperson and general secretary of TMC.
In the 2016 assembly elections, Mahua Moitra won from Karimpur constituency in Nadia district. After this victory, the Trinamool Congress fielded her as its candidate from Krishnanagar constituency for the 2019 elections.
Trinamool Congress’s decision to field Mahua in the election turned out to be correct, Mahua won that election and became a Member of Parliament (MP) on 23 May 2019.
After this, he was made the party in-charge of Goa on 13 November 2021 by the Trinamool Congress for the Goa Legislative Assembly elections to be held in 2022 so that he could prepare the party in Goa for the elections. Mahua was also made the national spokesperson of the party by the Trinamool Congress in March 2023.
Supreme Court advocate Jay Anant Dehadhray sent a complaint along with an FIR to the CBI against Mahua Moitra on October 14, 2023.
In that complaint, Mahua has been accused of corruption and money laundering. Jai Anant Dehadray has accused Mahua Moitra of taking money from Adani’s business rival Darshan Hiranandani to ask questions in Parliament targeting the Adani Group.
However, Moitra has denied all these allegations and is ready for any kind of investigation. On 9 November 2023, the Parliamentary Ethics Panel recommended the expulsion of Mahua Moitra from the Lok Sabha.
The Lok Sabha voted to remove Mahua Moitra from the membership of the Lok Sabha on 8 December 2023.
