Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Biography
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s father’s name was Pandit Motilal Nehru and his mother’s name was Swarup Rani Nehru. Jawaharlal Nehru studied politics, economics, history and literature very diligently during his graduation. After completing his graduation, he went to London to study law.
Jawaharlal Nehru received his law training from the Inner Temple in London. He returned to India from England as a barrister and was enrolled as a lawyer in the Allahabad High Court.
He was a lawyer by profession. But gradually his interest in Indian politics grew and he left his law practice and joined the Indian National Congress Party. And he completely devoted himself to Indian politics. When he became the President of the Congress in 1929, he talked about complete independence from the British Raj.
Jawaharlal Nehru’s first major involvement began with the Non-Cooperation Movement of 1920. He led this movement in the United Provinces (Uttar Pradesh).

According to some documents, Jawaharlal Nehru’s family started with Raj Kaul. Raj Kaul was a Kashmiri Pandit. It is believed that he came to Delhi from Kashmir in the year 1716.
Raj Kaul was given a house on the bank of a canal along with an estate. Because of having a house near the canal, the name Nehru was added to his name.
Gradually he started being known by the name Nehru instead of Kaul. After a few years, Kaul was replaced by only Nehru and since then his entire family started using the surname Nehru.

The name of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s wife is Kamala Kaul. Kamala Nehru was born on 1 August 1899 in Old Delhi during the British rule.
She belonged to a Kashmiri Pandit family who had settled in Delhi. She was the eldest child of her parents. Apart from this, she also had two brothers (Chand Bahadur Kaul and Kailash Nath Kaul) and a sister (Swaroop Kathju).
Kamala Nehru had only one daughter who was born in November 1917 and her name was Indira Priyadarshini. Indira Priyadarshini’s name became Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi (Indira Gandhi) after marriage and she also became the first woman Prime Minister of India.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru died on 27 May 1964. It is believed that the cause of his death was a heart attack. Because when he returned from Dehradun on 26 May, he looked absolutely fine and went to sleep at 11:30 pm as usual.
Next morning he told his doctors about his back pain and suddenly fell unconscious and never woke up again meaning he had died.
The next day after his death, i.e. on 28 May, his last rites were performed at Shantivan on the banks of river Yamuna with Hindu rituals.
